Third-Party Data Sources & Online Services (Runtime)

EarthView may fetch data from third-party services at runtime. These services are not bundled with the Software. Data is displayed directly in the user’s browser and is not redistributed. You are responsible for complying with any applicable third-party terms.

  • MET Norway (met.no) — Locationforecast 2.0 compact forecast endpoint (used for local QTH conditions). Subject to provider terms and rate limits.
  • NOAA / National Weather Service (NWS) — Weather alerts and public bulletins (api.weather.gov). Generally public domain; attribution requested. Do not imply endorsement or present modified content as official.
  • U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) — Earthquake feeds and volcano catalog. Generally public domain; attribution requested.
  • CelesTrak (TLE/OMM) — Orbital elements for ISS, Tiangong, and amateur satellites. Data provided by CelesTrak and/or upstream providers; subject to their terms. If exporting or redistributing orbital elements, verify applicable source terms.

Included Map / Geodata

  • Natural Earth — Base map components used for world-map rendering. License: Public Domain.

Data Sources & Credits (Detailed)

EarthView combines public and curated sources. External feeds are used “as is” and may be delayed or unavailable. Do not use for safety-critical decision making.

Earthquake Data

  • United States Geological Survey (USGS) — FDSN Event Web Service, GeoJSON (24-hour window).

ISS & Tiangong Position

  • Propagated on-device from Two-Line Element (TLE) data using satellite.js (SGP4). TLEs refresh from CelesTrak when available.

Tectonic Plate Boundaries

  • PB2002 plate boundary dataset (Peter Bird), packaged via the community tectonicplates GeoJSON repository.

Day/Night Terminator

  • Computed on-device from astronomical formulas (no external API call).

QTH Weather

  • MET Norway Locationforecast 2.0 (“met.no”) compact forecast endpoint.

Weather Alerts (QTH)

  • U.S. National Weather Service API (api.weather.gov) — active alerts by point.

World Clocks

  • Rendered locally using IANA time zones via the browser’s Intl APIs.

Volcano Locations

  • USGS-supplied list of volcanoes from the USGS catalog.

Volcano List

  • Curated list of interesting volcanoes maintained by The Earth Shack Software LLC.

Ham Satellites (SAT 1 / SAT 2) Orbital Elements

  • TLE data fetched from CelesTrak (amateur group) when available and propagated in-browser using satellite.js.
